Abuela Speaks English

So, I arrived in Miami two weeks and 27 pastelitos ago, and from nearly the moment I landed in the Homeland, I have been on my mother for speaking English to Maria.
This, from a women with perfect Spanish and who was on me even before my child was conceived about teaching future-nieta to speak Spanish.
I asked her el por que and her answer: “She looks at me like she doesn’t understand me.”
I need my parents to help me with Maria’s bilingualism, so I complained to my mom’s friend, Diana, about this and, well, spank me, Diana said she speaks to her grandkids in English too.
And, she gave me a good and uproarious reason.
You’ll have to watch the video I took on Miami Beach, and pay attention to how quickly I lost control of the interview. Diana answered one question and then offered up her own message to “you young mothers.”
Ah, it is going to feel very, very quiet when I return to Tennessee this week.

Ay Dios mio!!! I enjoyed that video so, so much! My mom speaks perfect English too, thank goodness because her California born, gringo fathered nieta, well her Spanish is “weak”! Turns out my mom is just happy that they speak at all, the fact that it is in English doesn’t bother her a bit!
I hope I’m even half that sassy some day. LOL.

OMG!!!! prima this is CLASSIC, and somehow very true…Kiddos, God bless them have very short term memory when we le llamamos la attencion…..They love us regardless and ALWAYS love being with their parents and loved ones….I’m still laughing writing this…OH! & by the way….Way to go to your moms contagious laugh in the back round….Much love to all @ TikiTiki

That looks like Sunny Isles Beach, no? You are only a few blocks away you should stop by for some cafecito and bring the grannies! I could use some expert child-rearing advice… besides, they are a hoot!
Thank you all for your great comments,had a great time doing the tape,I do speak español to Maria, it is just that she looks at me like in a trance and then I go to español mode,which in the mother tongue you can be more forceful to get across what I am saying.
So do come down to Miami and we will tell you how it is, I so enjoy having my girls here at home.

I think what I love the best is how quickly I lost control of the story…and it turned out better than I could have planned.
