Can I Call You Pepe?

Silvia from Mama Latina Tips is all sorts of fabulous. She is smart and tells wonderful cuentos. When I met her in Miami last month, I convinced her to tell some stories on video.
And, here they are.
In the first, Silvia describes what happens when the American groom does not understand the Mexican priest and in the second, she explains why her husband calls every man in the family “Pepe.”
Watch and enjoy.
Silvia is a former Human Resources executive who lives in California’s Central Valley with her loco husband of eight years and two traviesos sons. In an effort to express herself as a wife, mother, and multi-faceted Latina woman, she began Mama Latina Tips, a bilingual blog for Latina moms. Since that all wasn’t enough, she also blogs at Disneylandia al Día, a Spanish blog about the magic world of Disney.

Aww, this is toooooo cute! (:
LOL! Very funny! … I didn’t know your husband was Anglo, Silvia. We probably have some experiences in common because my husband and I didn’t speak each other’s language well when we met, too :)
Silvia, those are really cute stories. And you tell them so well! I can’t imagine not being able to understand each other!
This reminds me of when my Anglo husband first came to meet my extended family, all my tios and tias and primos.
One day, my Tio Angel called my house and I answered the phone and said “Hi Tio.” After I gave the phone to my mom, I told my husband (then boyfriend), “Oh that was my uncle Angel.”
My husband gave me a confused look and said, “What do you mean? I thought that was your Uncle Theo.” I looked at him even more confused until I realized that he thought that one of my uncles was named Theo because that’s all he ever heard us calling him…Tio this, Tio that…but my husband heard Theo…I couldn’t stop laughing and to this day, my family loves the story of my Tio Theo.
Qué cómico!!! I can imagine him saying: Pepe, Pepe! to everybody!
Calling everyone pepe works! Love the stories. We all call my husband gordo. He is an american but he has been latinized ..
Too cute. Me encantaron tus historias Silvia. To be married to a gringo sure creates a lot of them. lol
Muy bueno!
Very special memories! How funny! I can relate!!!
Silvia, I had no idea you and your husband did not speak each other’s language when you got married! Que romantico…!
