El Diario: Latino world domination and Esperanza Spalding
A new study reports that beautiful people who feel good about themselves earn more than the average-looking. Beautiful and brainy people do even better. Though, thank goodness, the research found that the average-looking-complete-smarty-pants can be most successful.
“We can be somewhat heartened by the fact that the effects of general intelligence on income were stronger than those of facial attractiveness,” according to the study by written Timothy Judge, a management professor at the University of Florida, and his colleagues. “It turns out that the brainy are not necessarily at a disadvantage to the beautiful, and if one possesses intelligence and good looks, then all the better.”
Given the overall gorgeousness of la gente Latina — see Exhibit A to the left — we really should be ruling the world, people.
An aim, among many, to achieve this will happen this September during Hispanic Heritage Month in Washington, D.C. The Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute is inviting “innovators, industry and thought leaders, entrepreneurs and advocates” to the capital for a conference titled: “Latinos Leading in a Global Society.”
According to the caucus site, attendees will address the “current state of Latinos” and how we can prepare to lead in a global society. Hispanic Heritage Month, if you don’t already know, is celebrated from September 15 – October 15. (Your Tiki Tiki el diario editora expects her invitation shortly because she has a lot of opinions.)
OK, since we’re talking beauty, brains, talent and Latino global domination, it is the perfect moment to introduce Esperanza Spalding. The young jazz musician and bass prodigy is a gorgeous woman of Spanish, African-American and Welsh ancestry. She’s played the White House twice, has gotten amazing reviews, and has new projects in the works.
So, on this viernes, we leave you with Ms. Spalding to inspire you. This woman will, for sure, ruleel mundo entero.
