Free Latin Music Downloads y a Vampy Laugh
This story on how children — and adults — become bilingual was at the top of the Yahoo news all day yesterday. In case you missed it, researchers are trying to apply how babies and small children easily learn languages to lessons for adults.
But, the story also offers reinforcement for bilingual adults to teach their babies to habla habla before puberty. Why: “We’re seeing the brain as more plastic and ready to create new circuits before than after puberty,” Dr. Patricia Kuhl, of the University of Washington, told the Associated Press. As an adult, “it’s a totally different process. You won’t learn it in the same way. You won’t become (as good as) a native speaker.”
So, mira…hablale un poco a los ninos en Spanish.
This month’s issue of Latina magazine has la bella and multi-talented Jersey-bred Daisy Fuentes on the cover. It’s an interesting read, especially the information about her mega empire and how she got there. But, here’s something else quite fabulous: “The Best Latin Music You Don’t Know’‘ with several free iTunes downloads.
The magazine highlighted hip, happening and up-and-coming singers and bands from all over Latin America including Cucu Diamantes, Agina, Madera Limpia.
There’s also a great little promo video. Your editor is quite taken with Cucu, by the way.
And, perhaps the best Latina quote of the week goes to Cuban actress Valerie Cruz, who debuted Sunday on the HBO vampire series True Blood as Isabella Beaumont, a 600-year-old Spanish vampire. She did a Q&A for Latina.com.
Q: Do you know any Latinos who act like vampires? That is, who come over uninvited, don’t need sleep?
A: “I’m Cuban, so I know a lot of people who act like vampires. But wait, vampires have to be invited to your house, so maybe they are nothing like Latinos! (Laughs)”
Un poquito mas:

I practically RAN over there (well, you know, I switched screens real fast) and I got those downloads right quick. And saben que? The songs are fabulosos… y te hacen mover en la silla!
As for the vampire – I was wondering who that was! She’s beautiful!
