Happy Earth Day, Mi Tierra
I recently told a friend that my grandmothers were green before green was cool.
One of them always carried her bolsita with her as she trucked down West New York’s Bergenline Avenue. The other watered down the dish soap as if it was religion. Perhaps it was just cheapness, but she stretched it out pretty darned far.
And so, today is Earth Day. What are you doing for your Mother, your state, your community?
Are you picking up litter? Planting in a community garden? Shopping with reusable bags? Have you stopped letting the car idle?
We hope so.
In honor of the 40th anniversary of Earth Day, here are some links of interest.
The Smart Mama, always has wonderful tips for raising green kids and keeping the yuck out of your casa.
The Environmental Protection Agency has a wonderful site with useful advice, encouragement and links to local celebrations. Check out the Pick 5 page, for sure.
National Geographic’s The Green Guide rocks it.
Free entrance to all national parks during National Park Week, which runs through Sunday.
Earth Day freebies and deals at national stores like Walgreen’s and Pottery Barn Kids.
Eco beauty deals via Latina Beauty Blog.
Eco fashion via Latina magazine and a whole site dedicated to earth-friendly fashion, Eco Fashion World.
At my house, we compost and recycle, we use our own shopping bags for everything, we’ve given up factory-raised pork (gotta start somewhere) and eating meat regularly, we raise guinea hens for the eggs and we participate in a community garden.
Now, you’re turn. What is your best Earth Day tip? What are you doing to support green living?
And by the way, have you answered our survey?
You could win a super cool Tiki Tiki t-shirt and our undying love.
