Let’s Connect
When I first entered the world of blogging, I kept my blog just as a personal diary to keep myself sane. I didn’t give the address to anyone so I knew no one was actually reading. Slowly I got drawn to the blogs of other moms who had similar interests or were pursuing similar goals. I commented, they commented, we connected. It became addicting.
Then one day I thought to myself, “There must be some Laitnos out there blogging, right?” The lovely editors of this blog are the first Latinas I actually discovered in my search for a little bit of home. I can’t begin to tell you how excited I was to discover there blogs; I found myself laughing out loud and feeling all warm and fuzzy with each of their fun stories.
But even though their sites were great, I wanted to find more. I wanted to see what we as a people were doing in social media, how we were connecting, what our opinions were, . As a mom and a blogger (yikes that makes me a mommy blogger!), I always found tons of sites that grouped together mommy bloggers. I found directories for all sorts of blogs – personal finance, cooking, healthy living, crafting – you name it there were central locations to find a gazillion blogs on topic. Zero for Latinos.
This lack of a central place for web savvy Latinos to connect was the push to get this wonderful site launched. Already we’ve met some awesome bloggers thanks to el Tiki Tiki. I want to get to know you and why you’re online. What you’re passionate about and where we can connect.
Motherhood is what drives me to write. It’s a unique and amazing experience that made me take a closer look at my culture. What about you? Leave a comment below and tell us where we can find you – your blog, Twitter, Facebook, Flikr - you name it, we want to check it out. Let us know why you’re online. Then pay it forward and share a favorite Latino blog you love so we and our readers can connect.
Looking for some sites to follow? Check out the Tiki Tiki blogroll or check us out on Twitter and see who we’re following.

Hey there! Saludos a todos…
I blog because I continue to work through the many facets of “me”; I’m a Latina mother, teacher, and hopeful writer. I know there are folks out there like me, and I hope to connect with them through my blog.
I’m a teacher in a bilingual education program. Teaching is not just what I do, it’s who I am. I’m especially struck by the huge responsibility of being a Latina role model to my students who arrive to this country, looking to “belong”. It’s important to me to guide my students through their transition while helping them to hold on tightly to their culture and language.
In my blog, I write about my thoughts and experiences as a mom, teacher, proud Latina, reader, writer, and questioner. Please visit my blog, and follow me on Twitter! http://twitter.com/CassyLL
I’d also like to invite you to check out the first blog I ever started to follow over a year ago. That’s Literanista at http://www.literanista.net/ She’s my source for new Latino books, authors, events, and good-to-know information.
I just started blogging this year and I connected with the travel blog/writers first, and then I started wondering where are all the Latinas? I put out the question and twitter came to the rescue. So glad I found you all. I’m passionate about traveling and parenting, but when I come to this blog, it seems familiar. Like you said: “coming home”.
On twitter @kidsgowest
I love the idea of blogging but can’t find something interesting enough to write about that will bring the people.
Very nice to know a little bit more about you Carla! (well, I read your baby story so I feel I know lots already!)
I started to blog right after I found blogs and learned what they did. I loved the idea, so since I’m in LA with my husband and kid and most of my family is in other parts of the world and my husband’s family is in San Diego I started blogging about my baby here: http://nuestravidaconadrian.blogspot.com/ so they would know what was up but now a days what drives me also is to talk about motherhood, parenting, children activities and whatever I feel like sharing!
And I also crated another blog with my sister about our business together: http://folkloreye.com/blog/ I love to share designs I make, I love to share designs I find out out there that I like. Finding a community of creative and like-minded people is what drives me to write over there, when we keep feelings and thoughts to ourselves is not nearly as exciting as to when we share them!
I love the fact that so many other latin blogs and websites have emerged, I feel so connected with them!
I really like Mama Latina Tips blog: http://www.mamalatinatips.com/
I recently met Silvia and immediately felt connected as latina and as a mother. She is starting with her blog and I’m sure she will be successful cause she puts lots of work to it and she is very passionate about it!.
Me despido como dice mi papá, Salud!!
Oh, here is my twitter: http://twitter.com/darielacruz
Hi Carla!
You´re actually one of the first blogs we found! :)
We started out of our own necessity to connect to other parents raising bilingual children. We found a handful of sites with research-oriented information but none that really had a community feel to it.
Now, I´m so happy to have made so many great relationships with other blogging parents and to parents that visit our site.
Getting to know you (Carla), Carrie, Violeta, Sylvia, Dariela and so many others thru our writing makes every day worthwhile.
You can find our amazing friends via our Facebook page (http://Facebook.SpanglishBaby.com) and our Twitter profile (http://Twitter.com/SpanglishBaby)
I would definitely say you should be following Monica and her for some constant stream of amazing book finds for bilingual children. Love her!
Gracias to Ana for the mention. I think you have made my entire year with your last two words. It is nice to know that someone actually appreciates my hard work!
The blog to which Ana is referring is the LBBC – http://www.LatinBabyBookClub.com – where a talented group of writers, mothers and entrepreneurs review bilingual and bicultural books.
When I first started blogging, I struggled in vain to find other Latina bloggers. Then all of a sudden in the last 6 months or so, there seems to have been an explosion! So happy to be finding all of you. It thrills me to read your stories.
To answer Carla’s questions: I have two blogs, the LBBC and http://www.MiCielitoLindo.blogspot.com. I also twitter @LatinMami. Come and visit.
As for who you should visit, the list is growing longer every day, but some of my favorites not already mentioned here are:
Voces (http://adrianadominguez.blogspot.com/)
Stitchado (http://claudiamarchan.blogspot.com/)
and Things I’ve Made (http://unafloresita.blogspot.com/)
