Love and Thievery: Recession Proof
Some things are recession proof.
Love, is one of them: ”Love Hotels” in Japan are booming because love and adult things soar during the bad times. Ah, hope and escape.
From CNN: “Love hotels fill a need for privacy in a country where high population density often means couples have little time alone…Rooms offer a broad assortment of features, including karaoke machines, PlayStation game consoles, DVD players, a variety of cosmetics, customized condoms and indoor-outdoor Jacuzzis.”
Here’s something else that booms in recession: Thieves who are not too bright. According to the AP:
“Employees at a Telefonica Movistar cell-phone store in Morelia, Mexico say they arrived Tuesday morning to find that the store had been broken into. An examination of the shop revealed the only items missing were hollow replica phones for display that are completely useless for making calls.”
Imagine the bobos going: “Halo? Halo? Halllll-oh?”
And, in Latin America, one more way to kill time comes to TV this fall: Latino American Idol. Can you imagine the costumes?
