Natalia,

Thank you so much for your kind words and your bittersweet story.
I love that there was redemption to your early loss in that you were diligent to pass on your life skills to your own children.
I'm so sorry for your loss. I cannot, as a parent, even begin to fathom losing a child. (They are ALWAYS children, no matter their age.)
And I assure you, that even when I complain about my mom's quirks, I realize the gift that I have in her. I love that she is still present and (loudly) giving her opinions. =D

Besos,
Marta

What a delicious looking soup - and with your description I could almost taste it.
As a mami of five who will be 70 this year, and who lost my mami when I was 12 (and she was 39), it was always important to me to help my children know some important life skills like learning to cook something (scrambled eggs and quesadillas come to mind; they are all now able to be comfortable and accomplished in the kitchen), learn how to do the laundry (sorting laundry, use of washing machine, and ironing the uniform shirts), and other household chores; from their daddy they learned to garden (helping with planting and harvesting the veggie garden). Of my eldest, when she became a teenager, I "encouraged" her to give up celebrating her birthday, but to instead celebrate my anniversary of motherhood (and her daddy's parenthood)- it is a good way to go - I receive flores and dulces on her birthday - it is all good. So if you still have your mami, I hope you are able to offer your appreciation. A sad note to this story is that I lost one of my daughters to cancer in 2008 (she was 38, and had two young daughters (now ages 6 and 4). Anyway, gracias.

Then you definitely need to make this!

Lisa,
Yes, I am proud. But I think I bit a hole clean through my lip. ;-)

Patrick,
Make it! Enjoy it! Will be expecting your report!

Hahaha! No matter how much we love our mami's, some days they can drive us crazy! You should be proud that you kept your ground and the end result was your award.

I also make a mean Mexican style Arros con Pollo that my mom makes, but I have changed it here and there. Same thing with my fajitas and she loves both!
