Summer Reading Inspiration
Despite the scary forecast in Miami — temporary home base of el diario — this editor is leaving for a few days on the beach. In preparation, she picked up a paperback copy of Telex from Cuba, the story of the island’s American residents and employees of United Fruit Company. It is told from the perspective of the children, and the author, Rachel Kushner, mined her own mother’s memories and stories for the book. The era is mid- to late-1950s, just before the Revolution.
So, we have a summer beach reading edition here today.
Check out a bunch of links on examiner.com to Latino books and author interviews, a favorite and well-connected spot, Literanista, a new friend, Bronze Word, and for the kids, have you seen the Latin Baby Book Club?
