The Luxury of Imaginación
Back when I used to do a meditation class, we’d end sessions with the instructor leading us through a guided visualization. Esos últimos diez minutos of class, where I’d get to lay on my mat and imagine myself somewhere peaceful, while the instructor described usually the ocean, were pure gold.
And even though I don’t go to that class anymore, this past weekend I thought about that exercise again as my little girls and I set up the new beach-y lounge chairs we got for the 4th of July festivities we hosted at home.
As soon as I unfolded the chairs, my three year old daughter climbed up on one immediately and announced the three of us should play we were at the beach. She organized her younger sister and I on the other chairs, and, as we settled ourselves in, started telling us all about the umbrella drinks we were drinking, the salads we were eating, the sunglasses and bathing suits we were wearing, the magazines we were reading, the music we were listening to… The sun, the sand, the waves. Guided visualization, lead by a three year old.
Ten minutes of this, y me relaje tremendamente. Today, try it yourself, no matter your age or whether or not you can make it to a beach or meditation class. Remember that the luxury of imagination is accessible para todos.
