What I relate to most is the fact that I am not enough or too much for others. I didn’t used to focus on my Latina-ness because it just was and then I moved to places where I was the “different” one and was asked questions or told things about Latinos. My identity strengthened, not weakened based on those experiences.

I am American, I always say. Just, one with an extra flavor. Yeah, kind of, they say. To Latinos, I am American and cannot possibly identify as Latina. Hey, man I watched the Brady Bunch and I lived the whole baldear and despojar New Year’s ritual.

So, like you…I am an American-Latina.
