monique ferrer-storycorps.comTell your story. We here at the Tiki Tiki are all about it and we’ve recently learned that the wonderful organization, StoryCorps, has launched an initiative called Historias, to tell the story of Latinos living in the United States. You can get a wonderful dose of stories — funny, heart-breaking, inspiring – here and you can make a reservation to record tu historia on this page.

StoryCorps is a non-profit whose mission is to record the stories of everyday Americans like you. Hope you will make a reservation. Your el buzz editor will drag her Mami into a booth soon.

You also can share your story with us here at the Tiki Tiki.

In the “who knew” category: An album of Jewish classics set to the Latin beat is being reissued, and it turns out the combo was quite popular from the 1940s to early ’60s.

According to the NPR story:

“It featured a Yiddish theater classic performed as a Dominican merengue, as well as a song about a cigarette seller done as a quick-step mambo. “Havah Nagilah” was played as a cha cha.”

You can click here to read the story and listen to a couple of songs. As someone interviewed for the story said, sometimes mixing two cultures works beautifully.

And finally, a new comic strip called Legal Aliens at dontarrestus.com is created by two very funny brothers. Here is the link to the first strip where you can catch up on the journey from outer space in the Low Glider.
